Prof. Fabio Pellacini

The Vice-Rector, with Area-wide responsibility,, coordinates the University’s research policies, oversees the management of university-wide research projects and other research initiatives, promotes access to national and European funding opportunities, and supervises research infrastructures, open science activities and the valorisation of research results. The Vice-Rector works in collaboration with the Delegate for Quality and the other Delegates on ANVUR accreditation, quality assurance and outcomes monitoring, together with the Research Observatory. 
The Vice-Rector is committed to defining policies aimed at fostering impactful research of distinctive strategic value for the University, and coordinates and proposes internal and external research promotion activities, reporting periodically to the Rector and coordinating the activities of specific Delegates.

The Vice-Rector, with delegated responsibility for the Area, coordinates the University's policies for Doctoral programmes and Advanced Education, oversees the management of Doctoral programmes, schools, regulations and calls for applications, and collaborates with the Quality Delegate and other Delegates for ANVUR accreditation, quality and outcome monitoring. He/she also coordinates postgraduate training programmes (master programmes, advanced courses, lifelong learning), defining strategic guidelines, quality criteria and economic sustainability. Finally, in coordination with other Area delegates, it promotes internationalisation and partnerships with institutions and companies, industrial and inter-university PhD programmes, ensuring regulatory compliance and reporting periodically to the Rector.

Prof. Gianantonio Battistuzzi

The Vice-Rector, with Area-wide responsibility, coordinates the University's teaching policies, oversees the planning of the educational offering, the academic calendar and teaching regulations, and collaborates with the Quality Delegate and other Delegates for ANVUR accreditation, quality and outcome monitoring. He/she coordinates activities relating to digital and inclusive teaching innovation, the guidelines for teaching quality and academic workload, and the internationalisation of degree programmes. Finally, the Vice-Rector monitors ministerial indicators and requirements, ensures effective operational coordination with Departments and Schools and regulatory compliance, reports periodically to the Rector, and coordinates the activities of specific Delegates.

The Vice-Rector, with Area-wide responsibility, coordinates the University’s policies for the student community and the right to education, including tuition fees and contributions, scholarships, fee waivers, housing and catering services, inclusion, special needs and disability, in coordination with specific Delegates. She promotes student participation and representation, as well as joint initiatives, and coordinates orientation activities for incoming and continuing students, placement, internships, and the alumni ecosystem. She coordinates, together with regional authorities and local partners, the expansion of services, oversees student engagement and communication, and monitors satisfaction, reporting periodically to the Rector and coordinating the activities of specific Delegates.

Tech Transfer, Social Impact and Healthcare Area

Prof. Marcello Pinti

The Vice-Rector, with Area-wide responsibility, coordinates the University’s policies for the Third Mission and social impact, with particular responsibility for Public Engagement. He coordinates policies on technology transfer, intellectual property and the valorisation of research outcomes, including patents, licences, spin-offs and start-ups, together with specific Delegates, defining relevant policies and valorisation models. In collaboration with the Rector, he/she develops partnerships with companies, public administrations and the third sector, manages framework agreements and third-party contracts, and promotes living labs and open innovation. Together with specific Delegates, he/she promotes cultural and scientific dissemination initiatives, the valorisation of the University’s museums, archives and historical-cultural heritage, and the organisation of initiatives, exhibitions and activities in schools. 
He coordinates policies for regional, national and European programmes with territorial impact, including in the field of social innovation. In collaboration with the Delegate for Quality, he/she coordinates activities for impact assessment according to ANVUR guidelines and international standards, providing periodic reports. 
Finally, he oversees the institutional communication of Third Mission activities and provides the Rector with regular reports on plans, objectives and outcomes.

Community, People, Well-being and Sustainability Area

Prof. Massimo Milani

The Vice-Rector, with Area-wide responsibility, coordinates the University’s policies for the development, well-being and effectiveness of academic and research staff, in alignment with the University’s strategic plan. 
He fosters initiatives for the professional development and career advancement of academic and research staff, their integration into University structures, and their intra- and inter-University mobility; promotes agreements with other universities or research institutions, sabbatical and external activity opportunities, and the prevention of disputes among staff. He collaborates with the Director General to define policies for the development, well-being and effectiveness of Administrative, Technical and Bibliographic Staff (PTAB), covering workforce planning, mobility, professional development, and performance evaluation and incentive systems. He promotes initiatives on training, inclusion and work-life balance, monitoring indicators and outcomes together with specific Delegates.
 He collaborates on matters relating to occupational health and safety in accordance with current legislation, in coordination with the Prevention and Protection Service, the competent medical officer, and the relevant University structures. He coordinates policies for relations with the University Trade Union Relations (RSU) together with the specific Delegate, overseeing supplementary bargaining and technical committees. He is responsible for the wellbeing, welfare, health and sport of staff, together with specific delegates, and reports periodically to the Rector on plans, objectives and results, proposing corrective and regulatory actions.

Prof. Paolo Tartarini

The Vice-Rector, with Area-wide responsibility, coordinates the University’s policies on energy and building sustainability and implements the University’s strategy with measurable objectives, such as decarbonisation, efficiency and resilience. In close collaboration with the Technical Department and specific delegates, he coordinates the three-year programme of works, maintenance and energy and building renovations at the Modena and Reggio offices and distributed campuses. He promotes innovative models for renewables, energy communities, smart building management and data governance of consumption, ensuring regulatory compliance, security and accessibility.
 He activates and chairs liaison meetings with local delegates from Modena and Reggio, technical offices and external stakeholders. He researches and manages regional, national and European funding for construction and energy saving. He integrates sustainability into teaching and third mission projects through campus initiatives, in collaboration with specific delegates on social and environmental sustainability. He prepares energy emergency and business continuity plans, with annual reviews and updates, and implements the University’s policies on new construction and maintenance of the building heritage. He reports periodically to the Rector on plans, objectives and results, and proposes corrective and regulatory actions.

The Vice-Rector, with Area-wide responsibility, coordinates the University’s policies on economic and financial planning strategy, with measurable objectives for financial sustainability and efficiency. Together with the Rector, she coordinates the Director General and the relevant Departments, the three-year and annual budget cycle. She gathers and prioritises the financial requirements of Departments, Research Infrastructures and Directorates, aligning them with the University’s Strategic Plan. She allocates and monitors resources for teaching, research and the Third Mission using transparent criteria based on KPIs and outcomes, together with specific Delegates. She oversees management control, ensuring data reliability, financial balance and operational continuity. She coordinates activities related to financial and contractual risk management, internal and external audits, and regulatory and fiscal compliance in coordination with the competent structures, assessing economic sustainability and impact, and reports periodically to the Rector and the relevant bodies on plans, objectives and results.

The Vice-Rector, with Area-wide responsibility, coordinates the University’s policies on economic and financial planning strategy, with measurable objectives for financial sustainability and efficiency. He works in coordination with the specific Delegates, the Legal Directorate and the Directorate for Institutional Affairs in planning and executing activities. He collects and prioritises the needs of Departments, Centres and Units, overseeing regulatory and statutory compliance and ensuring alignment with national and European legislation, as well as ANVUR and MUR guidelines. He oversees office activities related to contracts, agreements, framework agreements, partnerships and foundations, supporting negotiation and execution, managing potential disputes and legal risks, and promoting conflict-prevention measures. He ensures, together with specific Delegates and the Director General, compliance with transparency, anti-corruption, privacy and public contracts regulations. He represents the University in regional and national forums, monitors risks and improvement plans, and reports periodically to the Rector on plans, objectives and outcomes.

Prof. Costantino Grana

The Vice-Rector, with Area-wide responsibility, coordinates the University’s policies and implements the University’s digital and artificial intelligence transformation strategy, with measurable objectives in teaching, research and services. 
He coordinates initiatives with CINECA and external stakeholders regarding platforms, application roadmaps and contracts, ensuring interoperability and open standards. He collects and prioritises the digital needs of Departments, Research Infrastructures and Administrative Directorates, translating them into plans and projects. 
He leads the modernisation of administrative processes and services for staff and students through cloud solutions, automation and shared data management, together with specific Delegates. He oversees, together with specific Delegates and the Administrative and Technical Directorates, data governance, cybersecurity, privacy and business continuity, in compliance with European and national regulations. 
He promotes the responsible adoption of Artificial Intelligence in University administrative and technical procedures, defining guidelines on data quality, transparency, risk assessment and ethics, and fostering training and upskilling of administrative staff and the academic community in digital and AI competencies. He launches pilot projects with Departments, promoting technology transfer and the valorisation of research outcomes. He oversees KPIs, budget and the portfolio of digital projects. He represents the University at CINECA and CRUI for ICT-related initiatives and national consortia, and reports periodically to the Rector on plans, objectives and outcomes.

Prof. Paolo Pavan

The Vice-Rector, with Area-wide responsibility, coordinates the University’s policies on international relations and internationalisation strategies, in alignment with the Strategic Plan. He coordinates the University’s international cooperation, oversees requests from Departments and Schools, ensuring prioritisation, alignment and impact. He leads policies and programmes for the mobility and exchange of academic staff, researchers and students (Erasmus+, bilateral agreements, visiting programmes, double degrees), in collaboration with the relevant offices and specific Delegates.
He oversees agreements, MoUs and strategic partnerships with universities, research centres, companies and international organisations. He collaborates with CRUI (conference of Italian university rectors), the MAECI (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation), local institutions and external stakeholders on joint initiatives, calls and cooperation programmes, also managing international visits on campus and abroad, and coordinating initiatives for the simplification of procedures, visas, reception, housing and administrative-legal support. 
He promotes the acquisition of international talent and language-based teaching programmes, summer schools, joint courses and joint doctoral supervision, together with delegates from the areas involved. Supports participation in European and multilateral programmes, handling guidelines, reporting and compliance. He monitors internationalisation KPIs, as well as the impact and quality of programmes, oversees international communication and branding, and manages risks related to mobility and cooperation, ensuring inclusion and safety, while reporting periodically to the Rector on plans, objectives and outcomes.

Prof. Roberta Gelmini

The Delegate for Medical and Non-Medical Specialisation Schools coordinates the educational and professional training activities of medical and non-medical Specialisation Schools across the various hospital facilities, ensuring quality, consistency and alignment with national educational objectives and the University’s strategy. She reports regularly to the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and to the academic bodies and liaises with the Rector on the University’s representation within regional and national healthcare system bodies. She ensures the well-being, protection and development of medical and non-medical trainees, promoting safe, inclusive and high-quality conditions for study, work and training. She coordinates with the Delegate for PhD Programmes and Advanced Education and reports regularly to the Rector and to the University’s academic bodies.

Teaching Area, Student Community and Right to Education

The Delegate for Incoming Student Orientation works closely with the Vice-Rector and the other Delegates, in line with the University’s Strategy, to define policies, innovative methodologies, and implementation and evaluation tools for student orientation, in collaboration with upper secondary schools and local institutions. She also addresses the needs of working students and provides orientation support for students coming from outside the local area and from abroad. She coordinates with regional, national and international initiatives and reports periodically to the Rector and the Academic Bodies.

The Delegate for Outgoing Student Orientation and Placement works closely with the Vice-Rector, other Delegates, and companies and local institutions, in line with the University’s Strategy, to define policies, innovative methodologies, and implementation and evaluation tools for the orientation of students in the final years of undergraduate, master’s and PhD programmes. He contributes to the definition of internship policies and to innovative initiatives for student placement and youth entrepreneurship. He coordinates with regional, national and international initiatives and reports periodically to the Rector and the Academic Bodies.

Prof. Alberto Melloni

The Delegate for the Honor Project and the Advanced School oversees new initiatives to recognise high-achieving students and to promote merit-based achievements. He supports the design of an Advanced School or Higher Institute, in collaboration with public institutions and companies, to implement initiatives aimed at retaining talent in master’s degrees, including scholarships and financial support, as well as fostering modern critical thinking for building a multidisciplinary future and enhancing the University’s attractiveness in cooperation with the cities of Modena and Reggio Emilia. The Delegate will coordinate with the Delegate of the Area for the Student Community, Orientation and Right to Education, and will report periodically to the Rector and the Academic Bodies.

The Delegate for Academic Regulations and Standards is tasked with overseeing the overall management of the University’s internal regulations, including their drafting, updating, simplification, and harmonisation. He coordinates and supervises the processes for drafting and reviewing University regulations and other normative acts, ensuring consistency, clarity, and compliance with the Statute and current national legislation. The Delegate maintains regular communication with the Rector, the Vice-Rector with responsibilities for Legal and Institutional Affairs, and the Delegates responsible for regulatory measures affecting their respective areas, as well as with the relevant administrative offices, ensuring effective coordination between academic needs, procedural requirements, and the decision-making process. He promotes initiatives and actions aimed at improving the transparency, accessibility, and clarity of the University’s regulatory and normative framework.

The Delegate for Communication, in line with the University’s Strategies, is specifically engaged in defining policies and implementing initiatives aimed at improving the University’s institutional communications, both internal and external. He is also responsible for defining initiatives related to marketing, merchandising, and the University’s reputational positioning.

The Teaching Coordinator for the Technological and Engineering Area, in consultation with the Vice-Rector for Teaching and other Area Delegates, and in line with the University’s Strategy, contributes to defining models for the design of modern, high-quality bachelor’s, master’s, and single-cycle degree programmes, including those offered in English. He helps establish criteria for recognising the work of teaching and research staff, provides strategic guidance for the creation and modification of degree programmes, and defines guidelines for continuous evaluation and improvement, based on data collected within the University and in comparison with other national and international universities.

Prof. Annalisa Bargellini

The Teaching Coordinator for the Humanities Area, in consultation with the Vice-Rector for Teaching and other Area Delegates, and in line with the University’s Strategy, contributes to defining models for the design of modern, high-quality bachelor’s, master’s, and single-cycle degree programmes, including those offered in English. She helps establish criteria for recognising the work of teaching and research staff, provides strategic guidance for the creation and modification of degree programmes, and defines guidelines for continuous evaluation and improvement, based on data collected within the University and in comparison with other national and international universities.

 He participates in the University Research Committee and reports regularly to the Rector and the Academic Bodies.
